Portuguese Sweet Bread CopyKat Kings Hawaiian Bread

I did a little googling this week trying to find a copykat recipe for Kings Hawaiian Bread, during my research I found out that it is a sweet bread that could have originated with a Portuguese Sweet Bread.  So on the Internet search I went and found this recipe for Portuguese Sweet Bread for the Bread Machine

I did make some changes to the recipe.  Below is my version, for the original please click on the above link.

CopyKat Hawaiian Bread

1 cup whole milk ( yes it makes a difference)
1 egg
2 tablespoons butter (margarine just won't do)
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
4 teaspoons vital wheat gluten
2 1/2 teaspoons yeast

Add stuff to bread machine as your manufacturer suggests.  Choose dough cycle.
When cycle is done, remove and shape into a loaf and let rise for 30 minutes, then bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes.  After removing from pan to cool, brush top with melted butter.

I did have to add about an extra 1/4 cup of flour, just because of the humidity here.  Please don't be afraid to lift the lid of your bread machine and touch and feel the dough.  You want it not to be sticky but soft like a baby's bottom.

So now on too some pictures (My favorite part !!! besides the eating !!!)

So here it is all finished.  Yum it is good, hubby says it tastes just like the "Bread" from the store.  It is very sweet and has a nice dark crust.

Here it is after the dough cycle in the machine,  I personally would not bake this in the machine as it makes a very large loaf at least 2 pounds.

There it is ready to go into the oven and the picture after is it right after it came out of the oven and before it was brushed with butter.

Also this weekend I made some GREAT!!! Glazed Donut Muffins, from a new blog I found called Brandy's Baking, please go check out her site and all her great recipes, my mouth waters each time I go back and find something new I want to make.  Below is a picture of the muffins I made OHHH THEY WERE SO GOOOOD !!!

I hope everyone will try my copykat recipe, I think it would be great as rolls or sandwich buns too.

I will be linking up with some great blogs this week, please go check them out and try some of the great recipes out there, I did and they are great.

I really appreciate all the nice invites I have gotten to all the recipe round.  I  am finding so many new friends out there.  Thanks again everyone for stopping by.

  13. I have made this twice in the past 5 days. The crust came out burned the first time and it was set to medium! no biggie- just trimmed it all off. The second time i set it to light and it still came out dark. It is fine for nibbling but when you toast it, it is burned.

Guess I need to follow your advice and bake it in the oven. The flavor is great- gonna keep this recipe for sure!
