Soft Pretzel Rolls

So as promised a bread recipe for the week, well actually a roll recipe.  I had been craving a soft pretzel, but did not want to go to the mall, which is a 20 minute drive from us.  So I thought the "bread machine".

We are having burgers for dinner today, so I search and found this recipe that is from the Allentown Cooking Examiner, for Soft Pretzel Rolls.   It sounded good and said I could use my machine so I tried it.

The only thing I did different was use bread flour and added 4 teaspoons of vital wheat gluten.

Below is a picture of the finished product....

The next photo is when they were all risen and ready to put in the boiling water with the baking soda, which when you bake them gives them the nice brown chewy outside.

Next is an action shot .....................

And finally a plate full, as only 2 would fit on my plate.........

These really did taste like soft pretzels, we were eating them before I could even get a burger on them.   I got  6 big buns out of this recipe, you could of course make them any size you wish, heck you could even make them into pretzel shape and eat them.

I don't think I could do the pretzel thing though,  when I was a child we went to Lancaster, PA to the pretzel factory there and they would let you shape your own soft pretzel, well I failed at it at 12 so I don't think I could do in now either lol.

I hope everyone has a great week.  I again hopefully will be linking up with some great bloggy friends this week.  Please go check them out !!!
Thanks for stopping by,

Denise
