I had some whole wheat flour to use up and wanted to use and feed one of my sourdough starter aka "Betty", but my starters are just regular ones not a whole wheat one.
I found this recipe on Food.com Sourdough Wheat Bread. It used regular starter and half whole wheat flour and regular bread flour. The only changes I made with this recipe were I used honey instead of sugar, and canola oil instead of melted butter.
The recipe uses 2 cups of starter, so make sure you have enough one hand.
This bread is dense, chewy, soft and definitely has the sourdough twang to it. The starter I used is about 2 months old, I can only imagine how it would have been if I had used "Wilma" which is 5 months old.
This dough has no yeast and depends totally on the starter, mine took a good 1 1/2 to rise.
Here is a great loaf shot...
Here's a great inside view !!
I highly recommend this bread. It does start off in the bread machine, but you could use a stand mixer or just the old fashioned way by hand.
Thanks for stopping by............
